Mode: Offline

Duration: 2 hours

Format: Individual Blitz Chess Tournament

Time Control: Blitz format (typically 3+2 or 5+0 minutes per player)

Tournament Structure

All registered participants compete in a blitz chess tournament following Swiss system or knockout format. Multiple rounds will be played within the 2-hour duration, with players accumulating points based on wins, draws, and losses. The player with the highest score at the end of the tournament is crowned the E-Chess Blitz Champion!

Tournament Mechanics:

  • Individual competition—every player for themselves
  • Multiple rounds played within 2 hours
  • Pairings based on Swiss system (or knockout depending on participants)
  • Blitz time control: 3 minutes + 2 second increment per move (or 5 minutes flat)
  • Win = 1 point, Draw = 0.5 points, Loss = 0 points
  • Player with the highest total score wins the championship
  • Tiebreakers applied if necessary (Buchholz, head-to-head, etc.)

Blitz Chess Rules:

  • Standard FIDE chess rules apply
  • Each player gets 3-5 minutes total for all their moves
  • If time runs out, the player loses (unless opponent has insufficient material)
  • Touch-move rule enforced—if you touch a piece, you must move it
  • No takesy-backsies—once your hand leaves the piece, the move is final
  • Castling, en passant, and promotion rules apply as normal

Skills Required

  • Chess knowledge—openings, middle game tactics, endgame technique
  • Quick decision-making under extreme time pressure
  • Pattern recognition and tactical awareness
  • Mental composure and focus
  • Time management—knowing when to think vs. when to move fast
  • Adaptability to different playing styles and positions
